Google and Capgemini, an IT consulting and outsourcing company, has teamed up to offer Google Apps Premier Edition to to Capgemini's enterprise customers.

Google Apps Premier Edition costs companies $50 per user per year and offers Gmail, Docs & Spreadsheets and Google Calender and Talk.

This deal is significant as it is the first time Google's software for businesses will be offered in partnership with a major IT player and will give the suite added business-level credibility.

This also means that Google's software is now more than ever a rival to Microsoft's Office, but with the added selling point that Google's version is all online.

Capgemini has said it sees the Apps Premier Edition as appealing to small businesses, students, and those who want to collaborate over the Internet with business partners.
