OQO model e2 UMPC introduced in Europe

Productivity gets portable

NEWS: 17 September 2007 17:39 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

OQO has introduced its first ultra mobile PC, the OQO model e2, into Europe. The e2 offers a 5-inch display and is designed to be primarily be operated via the thumb-friendly keyboard.

"The opening of our new office in England and the launch of our first international product demonstrates OQO's commitment to meeting the needs of our international customers."

"We're excited to be partnering with several international resellers to bring the OQO model e2 to the European market", said Dennis Moore, chief executive officer of OQO.

Claiming to have created the ultra mobile PC category, OQO says the e2 offers a highly productive, mobile computing experience offered via Windows XP Professional, XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or Windows Vista.

The new OQO model e2 features a UK-optimised keyboard and system software, and offers up to 1.6GHz CPU, up to 120GB HDD (with options for 32GB SSD) and up to 1GB RAM and is available with a desktop dock with an optical drive.

Connectivity comes in via integrated 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR. The small size and weight - 142 x 84 x 26mm and 454 grams - hasn't affected battery life of up to 6 hours of continuous usage.

The model e2 is immediately available through resellers such as eXpansys, Portix, and Dynamism. A quick check on eXpansys shows the price as from about £993 to around £1500.
