Adobe announces Media Player, Buzzword and Share

Media Player goes into beta and new web-based word processing tools announced

NEWS: 1 October 2007 11:06 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Adobe is planning to extend its software offerings to include a new web-based word processor called Buzzword, which is thanks to the acquisition of the offering's parent company Virtual Ubiquity.

As part of Buzzword, Adobe will also launch a new service called Share that will let users to share and work on documents together online.

Documents can be edited, shared and stored online. Currently they can be saved down to user's computers as RTF or Word documents but PDF and ODF formats will come soon.

This move sees Adobe going up against Google Docs, free open office offerings, and as of today, Microsoft's Office Live Workspace.

In addition, the Adobe Media Player, announced earlier this year, is now available for beta download at Adobe Labs with a final version due July 2008.

The Media Player, for Macs and PCs can play files in the Flash Video (FLV) format but will not be able to play Windows Media Video or QuickTime Movie files.

The content available for the Adobe Media Player will contain adverts that will not be able to be removed, even if downloaded.
