Morphy Richards launches "Momento" high-end coffee machine

Even makes the tea...

NEWS: 3 October 2007 13:17 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Morphy Richards has launched the high-end Momento coffee machine that will set you back a not inconsiderable £600.

You do get a lot of tech for your money, and it seems to be an "intelligent" machine by all accounts...

It offers an easy to use digital control system with a one touch LCD control panel that allows you to make coffee to your exact taste.

You can scroll through the icons to select the coffee strength, number of cups and size of cup – and the Momento will remember the settings.

The steam wand whips up milk and there's a hot water function that provides boiling water for tea at the push of a button, while there's also a built-in ceramic grinder for beans.

A "unique integral professional brewing unit developed in Italy" calculates the correct amount of freshly ground coffee beans to make the coffee you’ve selected and tamps it down to create the optimum coffee pod.

Next, it selects exactly the right amount of water, some of which is sprinkled onto the coffee pod – apparently wetting the coffee ensures maximum flavour extraction.

The remaining water is then pumped, under 18 bar pressure onto the coffee, which Morphy Richards claims produces the finest crema topped coffee with an intensive flavour hit.

Other features include an adjustable coffee spout which can be lifted or lowered to suit the size of cup, a cup-warming tray and a removable 1.8-litre illuminated water tank for easy filling.

The Momento will tell you, via its digital display panel, when the drip tray needs emptying and when it’s time to descale.

It features an energy saving standby mode when not in use and it will make 6000 cups of coffee before its self-functioning maintenance cycle is required.

With a stainless steel finish and a 2-year guarantee, the Momento is £599.99 and is available now.
