Research In Motion announced some healthy profits for the last quarter.

The company's second quarter profits have more than doubled thanks to "surging subscriber numbers" with an increase of 1.45 million subscribers in the last quarter alone.

For the three months to 1 September, the Canadian firm made a net profit of $287.7m (£141m), compared with $140.2m for the same period in 2006.

3 million BlackBerrys were sold during the period thanks in part to what the Canadian company said was "strong demand" for the BlackBerry Pearls and Curves.

Looking forward, RIM has predicted between $1.6 billion and $1.67 billion turnover in the next quarter and hopes to add another 1.65 million new subscribers.
