PlayStation 3 hardware sales jumped 178% last week with the introduction of the new 40GB PS3 model, as well as a price cut for the 60GB version.

This 178% jump in sales meant the system saw its third highest week since launch in the UK.

Nintendo's DS was still the best-selling unit in the UK, followed by the Wii and then the PS3, with the Xbox 360 lagging behind.

As a result of the increase in hardware sales, PS3 software has also enjoyed enhanced sales figures games in the charts climbing.

We asked Pocket-lint readers whether they would be interested in buying a cheaper, 40GB PS3 and the results are just in, with 58% saying yes and 42% saying no.
