18 October 2007 11:30 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott
The P470, with its magnesium alloy casing and carry handle is no office notebook, but it designed to be an invaluable tool for those in professions where ruggedness and extreme are not just marketing phrases.
With a shock mounted HDD and LCD TFT screen, the P470 is also equipped with a G-Sensor to protect data from sudden drop or accidents.
For more extreme conditions, the P470 also includes sealed I/O caps and doors to prevent dust, rain and spillages from entering the unit.
The P470 has "an array of impenetrable defensive capabilities" including a Biometric Fingerprint Reader and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2), a chain of trust procedures monitors every step, from pre-boot to OS load, to guard against unauthorised tampering from physical theft of software attack.
Connectivity comes in via 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wide Area Network GPS and 3G technology. For conferencing facilities, the P470 also features a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam.
