SanDisk TakeTV video player gets official

As does "Fanfare" download service

NEWS: 22 October 2007 11:53 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Following a retailer leak, SanDisk's new video player, TakeTV, has just got official.

Described as an easy way to enjoy downloaded video on a TV instead of your computer screen, the new Sansa TakeTV video player is a "breakthrough device" that the company claims gives you a smart, convenient, and affordable way to take video from the PC to the TV.

Said to be as simple as using a USB flash drive, you just drag files to your TakeTV player, slip it into the TV cradle, and press play on the included remote.

To complement the product launch, SanDisk has also announced Fanfare (in beta) a new web service that gives you access to a growing list of TV shows and movies that you can download and watch on your TV - whenever and wherever you want.

The TakeTV drives are available in 4GB for $99, which SanDisk claims will allow 5 hours of video, or 8GB for £149, which obviously doubles the capacity.
