Google holding conference call for "gPhone" launch

The Android mobile phone platform is official

NEWS: 5 November 2007 16:30 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

It's the news we've been waiting for - Google will be holding a conference call at noon eastern time in the States (5pm UK) to unveil the details of its long-rumored "Android" mobile operating system.

Engadget reports that joining CEO Eric Schmidt will be other members of the Open Handset Alliance, including the top bods from Deutche Telekom, HTC, Qualcomm, and Motorola.

The press release states that the "Android platform will be made available under one of the most progressive, developer-friendly open-source licenses".

As leaks had suggested, it will be a "fully integrated mobile 'software stack' that consists of an operating system, middleware, user-friendly interface and applications".
