OLPC to get SimCity bundled

Developing country kiddies get free game

NEWS: 9 November 2007 8:12 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

The One Laptop Per Child project today announced a deal with Electronic Arts that will mean a Linux version of the SimCity game will come preloaded, for free, onto each low-cost laptop.

This will mean the children in developing countries who receive the $200 laptop, designed for educational purposes, will be able to play the game out of the box, without having to buy or load software.

The version of the game will include special language support, befitting the international scope of the project, but will also be bundled with devices sold for Western markets too.

The city building game should make the notebook both entertaining for children while also teaching them skills, EA claims.
