Pocket-lint Gadget Awards winners announced

And the winners are...

NEWS: 23 November 2007 0:00 GMT by Stuart Miles

This year's winners of the 4th Pocket-lint Gadget Awards have been announced giving consumers the must-have advice they need when it comes to buying the best gadgets and technology of 2007.

Not being swayed by the hyperbole, the judges, made up of 10 top independent technology journalists in the UK, haven't gone with some of the more predictable results that you might have imagined.

In the greatest upset of the evening, Apple although winning three awards, failed to win Best MP3/Portable Media Player in association with HTC. Likewise TomTom, who has won an award at the Ocket-lint Gadget Awards every year to date, was knocked off the top spot by Navman with its newly designed S90i GPS model.

Other victories include Best Smartphone won by the Apple iPhone over two BlackBerry models, and Kodak being recognised by the judges for its entry into the All-in-one printer market with the EasyShare 5300.

However the big victory of the evening was the Nintendo Wii being the only product to score top points from all the judges. The console which was launched in December 2006 has been crowned Best Games Console 2007 beating Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite.

"The aim of the Pocket-lint Gadget Awards is to give consumers the definitive guide to what is the best gadget of 2007, whether it's laptops or mobile phones, so they know they aren't buying a gadget turkey this Christmas", said Stuart Miles, editor

The expert panel of judges included journalists from The Times, The Evening Standard, The Mirror, The Independent, ShinyShiny, The Register and The Metro. Best Gadget of the Year Award was voted by Pocket-lint members.

Judges marked each product out of five and then the scores totalled.

Pocket-lint.co.uk considered over 700 products it had reviewed since December 2006 that, after much deliberation, were narrowed down to just five nominations in 25 categories.
