Nokia predicts boom in user-generated entertainment

Is this the future of entertainment?

NEWS: 3 December 2007 18:26 GMT by Katie Scott

Sharing pics online is obviously big business now with sites such as Facebook, but a new study from Nokia suggests that 25% of everything that we make, edit, share and watch is going to be "user-made" by 2012.

The phenomenon, dubbed "Circular Entertainment" is good news for Nokia – the first handset manufacturer to set up its own social network for its users.

Its "Mosh" site went live this summer allowing Nokia customers to upload, share, collect, or download various media from their mobile phones as well as desktops.

At the same time, The Future Laboratory was canvassing consumers aged 16 to 35 from 17 countries worldwide to get a glimpse of what people will be getting excited about in years to come.

This was combined with Nokia’s own research of 900 million consumers around the world.

Nokia says in the next five years, we will all be "not only creating our own content, but also [able] to remix, it, mash it up and pass it on within [our] peer groups".
