NEW TODAY:

Logitech launches winning keyboard and mouse set

Cordless super set launched today

NEWS: 5 January 2008 23:24 GMT by Katie Scott

A new keyboard and mouse combination has been launched today by Logitech.

The Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution comprises the MX Revolution cordless laser mouse (which was launched last year) and a keyboard display - both of which use Bluetooth wireless technology.

The mouse offers "hyper-fast" scrolling and a high-performance laser engine for "smooth, reliable tracking". It comes with a rapid-charging stand eliminating the need for batteries.

It is bukt around the MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel, which offers two modes of navigation - spinning the wheel allows navigation through up to, for example, 10,000 lines of a spreadsheet in seven seconds.

The wheel can also be set to click-to-click mode, which allows movement through lists, slides or photos.

The second key component, the keyboard display, offers an integrated 7.5x2cm LCD screen.

This shows the time and date, a calculator, temperature, Web site favourites, a keystroke counter, e-mail updates and media information, such as band and song titles.

The keyboard also has hot keys offering quick access to Windows Vista features including Flip 3D, Gadgets and Zoom.

Logitech adds that both devices are built to be ergonomic. The keyboard uses its Zero Degree Tilt keyboard design while the laser mouse is sculpted "for a comfortable fit".

The Bluetooth technology used allows cordless connection from up to 10 metres.

Logitech adds that new owners need only plug in the mini-receiver to a computer’s USB port to connect the keyboard and mouse to the PC.

It adds that the MX 5500 desktop’s receiver can also be used as a Bluetooth hub, enabling other Bluetooth devices, such as a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a PDA, to connect to a computer through the hub.

The Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution desktop is expected to be available in the US in late January and in Europe in late February for around £119.99.
