Sync Software for iPhone launched

Chop and change

NEWS: 2 January 2008 13:28 GMT by Katie Scott

A new package that allows users to switch "seamlessly" between smartphones, BlackBerrys or Windows Mobile devices to the iPhone has been launched by Californian developer Mark/Space.

The Missing Sync for the iPhone offers migration tools for smartphone switchers and adds synchronisation capabilities not provided by Apple.

It supports migration from most smartphones using Palm OS, Windows Mobile or from BlackBerrys.

The package is run by a migration assistant. "Even if users never synced with their Macs before, iPhone the Missing Sync make sit easy to suck the data from the old phone and load the information onto the iPhone in minutes", explains the developer.

However, it also improves upon the tools offered by Apple, claims mark/Space.

For example, the iPhone keeps 1000 SMS messages, both incoming and outgoing. "iPhone the Missing Sync collects that data so messages are safe no matter how prolific a texter you are. It also lets users view and search the SMS messages in a threaded view, just like on the iPhone", explains the developer.

The software package also adds call log abilities so that users can keep track of their calls, and also browse new contact numbers and add useful ones to their addressbook on their computer.

Missing Sync for iPhone will also allow users to sync their iPhone Notes so that they can read them in Microsoft Entourage, Yojimbo from Bare Bones Software, or Mark/Space Notebook, which comes as part of the package.

The Missing Sync for iPhone is available now from www.markspace.com. The price is $39.95, with a crossgrade from a previous product priced at $24.95. A CD version will be available soon.

The software is currently aimed at Mac users but a Windows version is planned for the coming months.
