1.5-inches thick and available early 2008

NEWS: 5 January 2008 0:49 GMT by Stuart Miles

Hitachi has said it will be officially unveiling its new line of Ultra Thin LCD and Plasma televisions at CES in Las Vegas that promise to be just 1.5-inches thick in depth.

The screens will be available in three screen sizes (32-inch, 37-inch and 42-inch)

The screens will offer Full HD Resolution (1920x1080p) and a viewing angle of 178 degrees

The new Ultra Thin Displays will be available as HDTV Monitors in the Director’s Series and V Series, with 1 HDMI (1.3) and 1 RGB D-Sub15 input with audio input. The S series will consist of the HDTV Monitor plus a separate Audio Video Center that includes an ATSC/NTSC tuner, 3HDMI(1.3) and 2 Component inputs.

The company has yet to announce pricing.

Available in Japan since December last year and will be available for U.S. consumers in early 2008.

The company is also promising the unveiling of a "super” ultra thin LCD at just .75 inches in depth, as well as a system that allows video to be shared between homes and then viewed on a TV, not a PC.

We will keep you posted.
