CES 2008: Sharp show off Gaming LCD televisions

Faster pixel rate and easier access to connections

NEWS: 7 January 2008 1:01 GMT by Stuart Miles

Sharp has announced a range of 1080p LCD televisions at CES in Las Vegas that are geared towards console gamers rather than movie watchers.

The new sets, all 32-inches in size will feature a slim body and come in black (LC-32GP3U-B), white (LC-32GP3U-W) or dark red (LC-32GP3U-R).

In addition to the new style, the GP3U models also offers the same special features that enhance the game-playing experience as the previous gaming models, including a “game mode” which optimizes the picture quality for game-playing, and a custom-designed remote control that allows the user to quickly “jump” into the game mode, and access the side-placed terminals for easy connections to consoles.

The game mode provides a “Vyper Drive” engine, which promises to reduce lag time between the game console and the TV to be virtually imperceptible.

The panel boasts a 10,000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio, and a pixel response time of 6 ms.

The televisions will come with three HDMI v1.3 inputs, one of which is on the side, as well as two HD component terminals again one of which is on the side.

The LC-32GP3U-R, LC-32GP3U-W and LC-32GP3U-B are available now and cost around $1,599.99.

No word on UK pricing or availability as yet.

We will keep you posted.
