CES 2008: Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter gives more screen via USB

Add up to six Monitors via one DVI/VGA input

NEWS: 8 January 2008 0:02 GMT by Stuart Miles

Kensington has launched a new USB gadget that connects DVI/VGA displays over USB rather than having to have multiple graphics cards.

Unveiled at CES, the new Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter makes it easy to expand a computer’s visual workspace by adding multiple VGA or DVI displays to a PC using USB 2.0.

Users will be able to expand their desktop by pairing up to six displays connected to a single USB port to create a powerful desktop “command centre” that provides immersive access to digital multimedia content at work or home.

According to the company, who has turned to DisplayLink’s latest graphics transport software, users will be able to display 3D images, such as Windows Vista Aero interface or Google Earth, as well as smooth DVD video playback, are rendered in 32-bit colour depth as if there were viewing it on a single screen.

The adapter includes DVI-I and VGA video output; mirrored desktop, extended desktop and primary display (with Vista) video modes; and supports widescreen displays up to 1440 x 1050 pixels and standard displays up to 1280 x 1024 pixels.

The Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter will be available in early Q2 with an estimated retail price of $99.
