CES 2008: Belkin Conserve Surge Protector gives users control via remote

Promises to help you save the planet too

NEWS: 8 January 2008 16:13 GMT by Stuart Miles

Belkin has announced an 8-outlet surge protector that promises to be eco-friendly enough to allow you to turn off the devices plugged into it at the press of the included remote control.

The device works in a similar way to the units already announced by other companies in the UK, but adds the added benefit of the surge protection.

The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector will offer 8 sockets in total with 6 of them able to be switched off via the remote. However users won't be able to determine which individual socket is turned off.

The unit comes with a $100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty.

Promised in the UK in the autumn, the launch of the device comes as the thousands of companies announce their latest electricity guzzling devices at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
