Macworld2008: DisplayLink launches USB network display tech for OS X

Kensington first to market with new docking station

NEWS: 16 January 2008 6:03 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

DisplayLink has announced the availability of its USB network display technology for Mac OS X, allowing Intel-based Mac users to, for the first time, connect additional displays to their computers using USB 2.0.

This now means that Mac mini users can view their content on up to four displays, MacBook and MacBook Pro users can experience desktop-style working with the first USB graphics universal notebook docks coming to market and iMac and Mac Pro users can use DisplayLink-based products to add up to four additional displays too.

A beta version of the Mac VGC software is on display at Macworld2008 while Kensington will also be showing the first DisplayLink-based docking station for Mac laptops at thier booth.

The Kensington sd200v Notebook Docking Station with Video allows a user to connect speakers, a VGA display and up to five USB peripherals to their Mac with one USB 2.0 connection.

The docking station's DualView feature provides a front-panel button to instantly enable multi-monitor computing by switching the external display between mirror and extended desktop modes.

As an alternative to the sd200v Notebook Docking Station with Video, Mac users can also use the recently announced Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter to add up to four additional displays to their computer over a single USB 2.0 connection.

The Kensington sd200v Notebook Docking Station with Video is available now for $139.99/£89/€129.

The beta version of the Mac VGC software is available in March 2008. Mac OS driver for sd200v and the Dual Monitor Adapter will be available April 1, 2008 on Kensington's website.

The Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter will be available early Q2 2008 for a price of $99 in the US and in Europe.
