Reuters is reporting that Dell and Microsoft are teaming up to launch Product Red computers. Money from each PC sold will go to fund AIDS medication programmes in Africa.

Dell will apparently begin to sell the special laptops (an XPS M1330 and a M1530) and an XPS One desktop computer from Friday, Microsoft's involvement comes in via the Vista OS.

The charity will get $50 from each laptop sold, and $80 per desktop. The hardware will have red casing and the Windows interface will feature a red background and sidebar, apparently part designed by Bono, who told Reuters: "My job is to put some poetry in the machine, put some funk in the machines".

Product Red, founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver currently has several ongoing projects in the consumer electronics world including ones with Apple and Motorola.

The new products are expected to be announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week and go on sale across the globe before the end of the month.
