Canon launches four new compacts

Digital IXUS 80 IS, the PowerShot A590 IS, the PowerShot A580 and the PowersShot A470 announced

NEWS: 24 January 2008 8:56 GMT by Stuart Miles

Canon today has announced the launch of four new compact cameras at its Spring Collection event.

The new cameras, that promise to make taking photos easier will include new and old technologies such as a brand-new blur-reducing Motion Detection Technology.

The new models are the Digital IXUS 80 IS, the PowerShot A590 IS, the PowerShot A580 and the PowersShot A470.

The Digital IXUS 80 IS will offer 8 megapixels, a 3x zoom with optical Image Stabilizer, 2.5-inch PureColor LCD and come in four attractive colour variations; Classic Silver, Candy Pink, Chocolate, Caramel.

The PowerShot A590 IS and PowerShot A580 both offer 8.0 megapixels, have a 4x zoom, a new "Easy mode" and full Manual control, range of optional lens accessories and a 2.5-inch LCD and optical viewfinder. The A590 comes with the added benefit of an optical Image Stabilizer.

Finally the PowerShot A470 will offer 7.1 Megapixels, a 3.4x zoom, 2.5-inch LCD and come in Red, Blue, Green, Silver.

All the models will offer the usual array of Red-Eye reduction capabilities as well as Face Detection and White Balance.

The new Motion Detection Technology is activated in High ISO Auto mode and takes information from multiple sources such as Face Detection Technology, scene brightness, subject movement and the optical Image Stabilizer where available to assess camera or subject movement. It then calculates the minimum boost in ISO levels (between ISO 80-800) necessary to compensate for that motion.
