WD has introduced its new My Passport Essential Portable USB Drives into its continuously updated line of Passport products.

Redesigned to complement WD's popular My Book family of external drives, the devices introduce a sleek new form that, weighing less than five ounces, means they really are pocket-friendly.

With a glossy black finish and, perhaps slightly more importantly, almost a third of a terabyte of digital storage, the drives are bus powered so they do not need an external power adapter.

Equipped with sync and encryption software (Windows compatible only), owners can take desktop content with them and simplify the synchronisation of personal files and Microsoft Outlook data on a PC.

Should the drives get lost, data is protected with 128-bit encryption while Google search software on the drive allows the authorised user to quickly locate files.

WD's My Passport Essential USB Drives are available now, the price for the 320GB version is £119.99.
