MySpace ready for outside developers

...bid to beat Facebook

NEWS: 31 January 2008 9:56 GMT by Katie Scott

Next month, MySpace is going to open its arms to outside developers in a bid to widen the gap between itself and its nearest rival, Facebook.

Facebook has grown rapidly in the last year and developers point to the willingness of the team behind the social networking site to allow developers to create applications for it - anything from giving gifts that grow to sharing photos.

And MySpace is now to do the same from 05 February.

The developer program is to be rolled out globally in about 28 territories.

Developers can register for more information at developer.myspace.com now.

In a separate announcement, the company has promoted MySpace business development executive Amit Kapur to a new role as chief operating officer.
