"PC gaming is not dead"

NEWS: 20 February 2008 11:29 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

The brand new "PC Gaming Alliance" has held its first press conference at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, with the message that PC gaming is far from dead.

The PC Gaming Alliance is an American non-profit organisation created "to drive worldwide growth of PC gaming".

Activision, Epic and Microsoft are founding members representing the software side of things, while hardware companies AMD, Nvidia and Intel as well as Dell, Acer, Alienware and Gateway are all founding members too.

"We believe we can have a united front and have some impact", said the Alliance president, Intel's Randy Stude.

In response to the accusation that PC gaming is "dying" in some markets, Stude revealed some statistics on showing that for the global PC games market revenue was $8.3bn in 2007, up 14%, with 2008 revenues set to be $9.6bn, up 16%.
