Siemens launches Gigaset SX764 Media Server

"Central gateway"

Siemens has launched the Gigaset SX764 Media Server, a "central gateway" for voice and internet communications as well as for streaming multimedia files.

The device combines a WLAN router, ADSL 2+ modem, a telephone system for IP and fixed-line telephony and a UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) home media server in a stylish little box.

The media server, TwonkyMedia from PacketVideo, allows users to send their digital photos, music and videos to other multimedia devices via Ethernet or 802.11g WLAN without needing to turn on a PC. They can also access them remotely when on the road.

The device offers four Ethernet ports, USB 2.0, and two analogue connections are available for phones, Gigaset SX764 can be used for calls over the fixed network or can be set up for up to six VoIP numbers.
