Last year on the 27th February 2007, a new act to increase the penalties for using a hand-held phone whilst driving came into force.

Exactly 12 months on and drivers are still breaking the law with over 40% of those who use mobile phones whilst driving doing so illegally without a handsfree device, according to research carried out by You Gov on behalf of Plantronics.

Drivers risk not only a fine and points on their license, but possibly even a jail sentence according to recent new guidelines.

The risks are not getting through, especially to young 'uns, with nearly half of 25-34-year-olds that make calls whilst driving admitting to using their phones without handsfree.
