CeBIT 2008: Magellan's 1400 RoadMate series gets Euro launch Three new models to launch in UK

Magellan has announced three new additions to its RoadMate series of entry-level vehicle navigation units to the European market. The Magellan RoadMate 1400 series, launched at CES, claims to deliver "turn it on and go" functionality in a slim, pocket-sized form.

With pricing beginning at 179 euros (£135), Magellan are aiming the cheaper model at drivers new to GPS units.

The RoadMate 1400 series features a widescreen 4.3-inch anti-glare touchscreen, newly designed, menu and map screens, an "intuitive" user interface with QuickSpell, for fast input, and SmartDetour.

The RoadMate 1400 entry level model comes preloaded with NAVTEQ road maps, and users can choose from several European regions, including Great Britain/Ireland/Northern Ireland complete with a database of safety cameras for each region.

The RoadMate 1415 adds text-to-speech, which announces the street name and direction of the next turn. It comes pre-loaded with NAVTEQ full European map coverage, and also features thousands of points of interest, pricing is 229 euros.

The RoadMate 1425 adds an integrated live traffic feature and lifetime traffic subscription that uses real-time traffic update information to display incidents, suggest alternative routes. One million POIs are included with this unit. Suggested pricing is 279 euros.
