One of the companies that owns the rights to a vast majority of the Beatles back catalogue has denied reports circulating since the weekend that Paul McCartney has signed a deal with Apple.
Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the joint venture owned by Sony and Michael Jackson, has denied that Beatles tunes will soon be available on iTunes.
A spokesperson for the record label told CNet that the reports of a $400 million agreement are "untrue".
The EMI Group owns the recording rights to the Beatles songs, but Sony and Jackson own the rights to a "majority" of the catalogue's publishing rights.
If a deal had been done between the remaining Beatles and Apple, Sony/ATV would "absolutely be informed", the Sony/ATV spokesperson said.
