Comet sales rise on strong demand for TVs

3% year-on-year growth

NEWS: 19 March 2008 11:55 GMT by Katie Scott

Sales of flat screen TVs have driven sales at the highstreet store, Comet.

The retailer chain's owner, Kesa Electricals, has recorded a 3% rise in like-for-like annual revenues.

The London-based pan-European retailer saw revenues for the year ending 31 January 2008 total £4.3bn.

The company also owns European stores including Darty and Vanden Borre.

The sales increases were despite fears of a slowdown and Kesa has said that trading conditions are going to stay tough.

"Sales were helped by the continued high demand for new technologies, particularly flat screen televisions and laptops", Kesa chief executive Jean-Noel Labroue told the BBC.
