EMI wants in to Nokia's "comes with music" scheme

"We want to be part of it"

NEWS: 20 March 2008 9:04 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

EMI has revealed that it is in talks with Nokia about the mobile phone maker's forthcoming "comes with music" service.

So far Universal is the only major label confirmed to sign up to the scheme, which offers unlimited music for free for the life of a Nokia device.

"We want to be part of it. I believe strongly that when it launches we will be there, with a full offering", Wemppa Koivumaki, head of EMI Finland, told a news conference.

Nokia is due to start selling mobiles bundled with the service in the second half of this year.

It has been recently reported that Apple is in talks with the major record companies about a similar offering for iPods and iPhones, where consumers will pay a premium and get free music for the life of the device.
