Mozilla CEO slams Apple

"Apple Software Update on Windows is wrong"

NEWS: 24 March 2008 22:16 GMT by Stuart Miles

The CEO of Mozilla the foundation behind the Firefox browser has slammed Apple for its tactics in pushing its internet browser, Safari 3.1 on unsuspecting Windows users through the company's updater application.

"What Apple is doing now with their Apple Software Update on Windows is wrong", John Lilly states on his blog before going on to say that the move "undermines the trust relationship great companies have with their customers".

The comments come as Apple has started to use its Apple Software Updater to push users to update to the new application rather than just offer updates to applications already installed.

In related Firefox news, Mozilla developers have told Reuters that Firefox 3, the latest version of its internet browser, still in beta, is ready for the masses.

According to the news agency the "program's creators told Reuters on Thursday that the privately-held company's trial version of Firefox 3 browser is ready for the masses to use after months of development".

The final version is due to be available in June.
