BA gives flyers free Wi-Fi

...but only if you've forked out to sit in the frequent flyer or exec lounges

NEWS: 31 March 2008 11:56 GMT by Katie Scott

British Airways is going to roll-out free Wi-Fi access at seven major UK airports from 1 April.

Passengers sitting in the airline's business and frequent flyer lounges will be able to access BT Openzone's Wi-Fi hotspot service.

Free access will be available to travellers at Edinburgh, Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Manchester and Newcastle airports.

Online reports suggest that the deal is to run for 3 years.

For all of us who can't afford to upgrade, and will be found slumming it in the departure lounges along with screaming children and grumpy parents, you can still sometimes get free access to BBC content via The Cloud hotspots.

But whether this can keep you occupied for the days you may be stuck at Heathrow's new Terminal 5, courtesy of BA, is another question.

Surely there's only so much Top Gear and Teletubbies one man can take!
