The BBC reports that an American man has sold the domain name pizza.com for $2.6 million, which is about £1.3 million.

43-year-old Chris Clark sold the URL to an anonymous company, after owning it since 1994, in a week-long online bidding process.

"It's crazy, it's just crazy", Mr Clark was quoted as saying by the Baltimore Sun newspaper. "It will make a significant difference in my life, for sure."

Vodka.com was sold for $3 million in 2006, while in the UK, Recycle.co.uk made £150,000 and Cruises.co.uk went for over half a million.

Clark said he now regretted not buying more domain names in the 1990s.
