WEBSITE OF THE DAY - sportstracker.nokia.com Track your sporting movements and then share what you've done with the world

Sports Tracker is Nokia's new recreational navigation tool, and even though it's still in beta, it's already a firm favourite round these parts.
It will appeal to anybody into walking, running, cycling, or in fact pretty much anything you can do out of doors.
Using a GPS-enabled Nokia phone you can record all your positional information as you exercise and then upload it to this service. Speed, distance, altitude - everything is recorded for later analysis and discussion.
I tried it out on a mountain biking trip to Staffordshire using a shiny new N82 and it was a hugely successful outing. Bearing in mind that I have navigational skills that make Mark Thatcher look like Marco Polo, the N82 was the perfect tool - its GPS capabilities rival any I've used and with the addition of the Sports Tracker app it's a brilliant addition to any outdoor enthusiast's arsenal of kit. Being able to see my speed and altitude as I panted and wheezed through the forest trails was a first for me and the next time I'm out and about I might be feeling technologically bereft!
Once you've uploaded your data, the route is plotted on a Google Earth map (you can't do this on the handset yet - although it will hopefully will be possible soon) and you can analyse your activities and share the results and the routes with friends, or the wider public.
A great tool that works very well, even at this early stage in its existence. We look forward to seeing how it develops.
