Apple's current MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks will be the "last of their breed", says AppleInsider, as the site learns of major design changes for the laptops.

The 13-inch MacBooks will undergo the biggest changes with new eco-friendly materials, such as aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel rather than a white plastic finish, "people familiar with the matter" say.

The MacBook Pro range is to borrow design cues from the new aluminum iMacs and all-new MacBook Air. This will mean Apple's computing range will have a more uniform modern Mac identity as well as keeping Apple boss Steve Jobs' promises of a greener Apple.

The new and improved versions are predicted to be with consumers in the third quarter of 2008.
