Although we know that mobile phone watches are inherently designed to disappoint, we can't help but feel strangely drawn to this version from Chinese manufacturer, Cool.

The G108 is a GSM handset in a clamshell slash watch design weighing 65 grams and measuring 51 x 51 x 20mm, it boasts that sleek silvery finish and has a secondary outer LED display as well as the main 1.5-inch 128 x 160 pixel screen inside.

Offering GPRS connectivty, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a media player (although only half a meg of memory) there's also microSD card support and Bluetooth, which would mean a headset set-up would make you a little less Dick Tracy.

No word on either pricing or availablity, which is probably a good thing for both our wallets and street cred...

  • Just bought the G104, new, for £85 (c. $170). I presume that this is the next step up, although having looked at both watches' spec I can't actually see what is different apart from the silvery finish.
It may be that G108 is quadband (thus working in N America), but as I am both English and modestly incomed that necessity is unlikely in the near future.
I loved my RAZR V3 and it has porbably outlasted all my previous communication devices, but when I saw I could have a clamshell on my wrist..! Great Scott, man! There's no debate to be had. I.. had.. to... buy.. it.
In performance terms, it is pretty good. Clear reception; reasonably loud Speakerphone; great little camera; nice display; annoying tunes (but you can put your own mp3s on there anyway to replace those); nutso computer translated handbook.
The one remaining question is whether the bluetooth I need to buy for it will work as well. Should do.
Final word: it's a little thicker than I'd like. The actual diameter is fine. It hink it's part of the circular; watchdial; steampunkish charm. but it's probably about the same thickness as an outdoors watch with casing cover.
