Virgin boss attacks net neutrality

Payment plans for faster content delivery

NEWS: 14 April 2008 9:19 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

It appears Virgin Media are continuing their anti-PR campaign in the UK following the news they are actively in talks with the BPI to implement a three-strikes policy for file-sharers.

DigitalSpy reports that Virgin Media CEO Neil Berkett has attacked the principle of net neutrality, where ISPs do not interfere with or lessen the speed at which content is delivered from sites, calling it "b****cks".

In an interview with the Royal Television Society's "Television" magazine, Berkett said that "this net neutrality thing is a load of b****cks", and said that Virgin is in talks with content providers about paying to have their content delivered faster than others.

On the subject of the BBC's iPlayer, Berkett went as far to say that public service broadcasters who choose not to pay would end up in "bus lanes", with their content delivered to consumers at a lower speed.
