Universal's Blu-ray movies to be announced

Former HD DVD backer's summer releases revealed

NEWS: 17 April 2008 10:19 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Universal Studios, the main backer of the now defunct high-def HD DVD format, will soon release all its new videos on the victorious Blu-ray rival at the same time as its standard DVDs, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio is due to announce its program of releases that will start somewhat auspiciously this summer with the recent box office flop Doomsday that will be followed by around 40 titles in the second half of 2008.

The studio's five big feature films of the summer will all get Blu-ray releases, including The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mamma Mia and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Universal first releases since the collapse of HD DVD will be in the States on 22 July with The Mummy action adventure films, previously put out on HD DVD: The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, and the spinoff The Scorpion King.
