MSI Wind to see June launch

"Light and graceful" Eee 900 rival

NEWS: 21 April 2008 11:16 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

We reported on the MSI Wind when it was shown as a prototype at a recent tech fair, but it has now made the leap to real world product and will be launching in June.

Offering "simple operating conditions for everyone's everyday use", the Wind is a new Asus Eee competitor that boasts specs that should give consumers pause for thought.

Weighing approximately 1kg, the notebooks will be available in 8.9-inch or 10-inch wide LCD display options with the screen complete with LED power-saving backlight technology and a resolution of 1024 x 600.

The Wind will come pre-installed with either Linux or Windows XP operating systems and will boast Bluetooth 2.0 and a 1.3-megapixel webcam.

Offering the same size keyboard as MSI's full fat laptops, it claims to offer a more "comfortable" typing experience than smaller competitors.

The other aspect where the Wind beats the Eee is the notebook's 2.5-inch 80GB hard drive, meaning consumers don't need to compromise on storage capacity.

When the micro laptop hits in June, UK pricing will come in at "between the £200-£300 mark depending on the spec."
