Google tops power brand ranking

Comes out as winner for second year running

NEWS: 21 April 2008 11:57 GMT by Katie Scott

Google is the top of an international ranking of "power brands" for the second consecutive year.

Millward Brown has published its annual BrandZ Top 100 ranking; and says that Google has a brand value of $86.1 billion (around £43.2 billion).

This places it above GE, which ranked in second place with a value of $71.4bn (£35.8bn) while Microsoft came in third place at $70.8bn (£35.5bn).

Vodafone was the highest ranking British brand coming in 11th place with a value of $36.9bn (£18.5bn).

Warwick Nash, chief executive of Millward Brown, commented: "The results this year highlight the strength of those British brands that have global clout and are leveraging their brands to help aid their growth. But this ranking is a wake-up call for companies to invest in the power of their brands if they want to grow their business or sustain it in tougher times".
