Wikipedia going into print

Edits to be done with a pencil?

NEWS: 23 April 2008 15:26 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Online encyclopedia that anyone can edit Wikipedia, is going into print as a hardcopy book.

German publishing giant Bertelsmann has announced it plans to publish the world's first reference book based on entries from the website.

The 20 euro (with 1 euro of that going to Wikimedia) German-language volume will launch in September and contain the 50,000 most commonly used search terms of the last 2 years.

"The Wikipedia encyclopedia will help allow knowledge to be spread worldwide and become more accessible", the publishing director of the company.

"The abridged, one-volume print edition will reach new target groups which will get to know the Wikipedia project and take part in it."
