Afghan Action is a charity which takes some of those people whose lives have been permanently scarred by the conflict in Afghanistan and teaches them new skills in an effort to help them rebuild and live a normal life. As well as literacy and numeracy lessons, one of the major schemes they run is teaching people how to weave rugs and carpets.

The project offers the young people of this poverty-stricken, war-torn country hope for the future and we reckon it's well worth supporting.

Through this site you can support the work through numerous sponsorship ideas and also buy the carpets that the trainees produce. And the best bit? Drop them a line with exactly what you're looking for in a carpet (colour, size, shape, etc) and they'll produce a gorgeous rug to your specifications.

The carpets themselves really are quite beautiful (and are even supplied to stores in the UK such as John Lewis) and if you can find a more worthy way to decorate your home then you're a better man than I.
