Skype 3.8 for Windows released

Improved sound, fewer call drops and easier headset changes

NEWS: 30 April 2008 11:21 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Skype has announced the newest version of its VoIP calling software, Skype 3.8 for Windows with the claim that this version of Skype sounds better than ever before.

The main improvements are in the "audio engine" which translates to significantly reduced background noise, less delay, fewer call drops, and fewer cut-outs - especially when both sides are using 3.8.

The new version also lets you change your headset, headphones or microphone without messing around with sound settings, 3.8 "takes care of it behind the scenes".

Another change is that by default, user's profile image in incoming authorisation requests are now hidden as some people have been using "offensive" images - so you now have to click through to see the hidden avatar.

The release also includes a number of video-related bug fixes and "other tweaks". 3.8 is available to download now for free.
