Microsoft making a PC for pensioners

"Senior" computer aimed at the "digitally excluded"

NEWS: 30 April 2008 15:26 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Microsoft is currently working on a "senior PC" with a simple interface aimed at older users, it has been revealed at London's Digital Inclusion conference.

Of interest to the 17 million British citizens described as "digitally excluded", the PC will offer software aimed at older, or less able users, such as prescription management and "simplified" tools for everyday use.

The machine is being developed in partnership with charities Age Concern and Help the Aged and will be ready within a year.

In America Microsoft already offers senior PCs in conjunction with HP, it's not said to be clear at this stage if the scheme, or hardware, will be the same.
