Microsoft has unleashed the automatic web release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 after incompatibility issues delayed the scheduled release.

SP3 can now be downloaded from Microsoft's Download Center or alternatively, via automatic Windows Update.

Microsoft says: "Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system".

Microsoft has also now resumed automatic distribution of Windows Vista, Service Pack 1, which had also been put on hold due to a similar problem.
