Intel delays Centrino 2

Nearly 2 month set back due to technical issues

NEWS: 28 May 2008 12:55 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Intel has revealed it is being forced to delay the launch of its forthcoming Centrino 2 platform by almost 2 months due to issues related to the chipset and the antenna used with the wireless chipset.

Centrino 2, also known as "Montevina", is the next version of Intel's Centrino platform for laptops and was due to launch in June.

Laptop manufacturers are now expected to begin shipping products based on the new processors in July, with the launch of Centrino 2 scheduled for the first week of August, said an Intel spokesman in Singapore.

"We are taking the extra days to address two issues that require us to re-screen our chipsets with integrated graphics, and attend to some terms-and-conditions mistakes while filing and testing our wireless antennas", said the Intel mouthpiece.

The Centrino 2 platform will eventually include new Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme Mobile processors.

Have Your Say
  • That puts the new Apple notebooks back a bit then. They're due to refresh the original Macbooks some time soon and the Intel/Apple product launches have been pretty tight since Apple adopted their hardware.

Unfortunately for me, that also puts any chance of a refreshed Macbook competitor, like the Dell XPS M1330 I've got my eye on back a few months too.

    Damn.
