Dixons may have declared the 35mm film camera dead, but that hasn't stop Epson launching two new two new 35mm film scanners, enabling you to archive straight from your 35mm film or slides to digital to store on your computer.

The new models that both offer 3200 x 6400dpi resolution will be the Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and Perfection 3590 Photo. They will cost £79 and £99 respectively.

The Epson Perfection 3490 Photo comes with the ability to scan either 35mm film or three mounted slides at a time, using the film holders provided. Once the film or slides have been placed on the scanner the Perfection 3490 Photo will automatically detect whether the film is positive or negative, colour or black and white.

The preview mode even allows you to see the image exactly as it would appear in a photograph.

While the Epson Perfection 3590 Photo is aimed at those who want the whole process automated. It features an Automatic Film Loader that allows you to place your 35mm film in the feeder, press one button and leave the scanner to do the rest.

The Epson Perfection 3590 Photo can scan a whole strip of six 35mm frames at one time.
