4 June 2008 9:27 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott
Softbank, Japan's third-biggest mobile phone operator, has issued a statement revealing it has reached an agreement with Apple to sell iPhones in Japan by the end of this year.
A Softbank spokesperson said there are no further details on the deal such as whether the company would be the exclusive provider of the phones in Japan.
The Softbank network is 3G, suggesting this new deal is in preparation for the launch of the next-gen 3G iPhone 2, supposedly due to be announced next week.
Other recent international iPhone deals announced now include most of the developed world, with Russia and mainland China yet to get operator partnerships.
