SMK Corp has developed and recently demoed the "wireless input pen", which captures characters written in the air, transmits them and displays them on a monitor.
According to SMK, it is the world's first pen-type device that can do this and the company is currently applying for a patent.
The pen has a built-in "triaxial" acceleration sensor and Bluetooth functionality. The sensor detects the positional information, recognises the characters and wirelessly transmits the info to a monitor via Bluetooth.
As with most Bluetooth devices, the maximum transmission distance is about 10 metres and the it is expected that the pen will be used in place of a laser pointer in presentations and the like.
