Apple Safari 4.0 starts development journey

New features and improved performance promised

Apple has seeded developers with a copy of the next version of its internet browser Safari 4.

The new version promises to add new features and is based on a newer version of WebKit as well as promising yet another performance boost when it comes to downloading pages.

According to tuaw.com Apple is also rumoured to be using the SquirrelFish JavaScript engine which allows for faster Javascript processing.

New to this version of Safari is the ability to save webpages as "Web Applications". And give users the ability to choose how new windows will open (i.e. with your favourite bookmark, blank page, etc.).
